NIAID GCP Training

Welcome

The Good Clinical Practices (GCP) online training is available to NIAID staff, investigators, and grantees. The training courses cover the scientific and ethical standards of human subject research, including NIH, FDA, HHS, and international clinical trial policies, guidelines, and regulations. The human subjects protection training requirements of the NIAID clinical terms of award for grants and cooperative agreements, as well as the NIAID GCP Training Policy can be fulfilled through completing these courses. As this training is only an introduction to GCP, we encourage all individuals involved in human subjects research to continue learning through formal education, mentorship, and reading.

Getting started:

Using the site:

  • System Requirements
  • Training Structure and Format
    • The training is composed of 4 courses that must be taken in order. Each course has a Pre-test, overview, 4-7 topics and a Post-test.
    • A score of 90% on the optional Pre-test allows the learner to immediately earn a certificate of completion. Once the course has begun, the Pre-test will no longer be available. Learners will only be given a Pre-test score, but no feedback on each question. Learners may also demonstrate understanding of individual topics, allowing for navigation through the understood topic.
    • At the end of each topic there are optional checks for understanding. These interactive exercises support learning in each topic.
    • A score of 80% on the Post-test is required to earn a certificate of completion. The Post-test may be taken as many times as necessary.

Navigation:

  • All topics and courses must be viewed in sequence.
  • To move from one section or page to the next, click on under the red bar in the upper right-hand corner of each page and at the bottom right of each page.
  • Any content already reviewed may be accessed via the left navigational outline. Note that “grayed” text has not yet been accessed and therefore will be unavailable until the content is reviewed sequentially.
  • On some pages, supplemental information can be accessed by clicking the underlined text (hyperlink). Information is presented in a new window. Close this window to return to the course.
  • If you wish to complete the course at another time, you may sign out. When you return, you can pick up where you left off. The system will remember which courses and topics you have completed and start with the next one.
  • During Checks for Understanding and Post-tests you must click the SUBMIT button after each question to access the next question.
  • To change the font size, click on VIEW/TEXT size.
  • Throughout the course references and links are provided; these are noted both in the specific sections and as a single list on the Web Resources page.
  • After successfully passing the Post-test for each course, you will be able to print a Certificate of Completion. You may print it upon completing the course, or by clicking on the certificate link on the course menu page.
  • To request Help or to submit comments, click on the Help link located in the upper right hand corner of the page; an email will be sent to the GCP Help Desk.
  • At any point during your visit, you are encouraged to complete our Satisfaction Survey, by clicking on the link located at the bottom of the course navigation.
